Crude oil prices have risen due to the cold weather sweeping across parts of Britain and the United States. There are forecasts for more cold weather in the United States which has led to further increases in the cost of a barrel of oil. Prices of a barrel of crude oil is at a five week high and is now nearly hitting eighty dollars a barrel.

Oil demand is on the increase because of the continued cold weather and the crude oil reserves are beginning to decrease. Because of this, prices of a barrel of oil are expected to go beyond the eighty dollar mark before too long.

Although with the increased demand for heating oil is the knowledge that the economy in the United States seems to be on the up. There are sure signs that the world’s worst recession since World War II has reached its peak and confidence is growing.

The oil industry has seen its biggest rise in a decade with prices increasing by 78%. Not since 1999 when prices rose by 112% has the oil industry seen such an increase. Reasons for the increase were the reduction in oil reserves and the weaker dollar. Some are predicting that the prices of oil will continue to rise with some even suggesting that prices could hit as high as ninety five dollars a barrel. Demand for oil will rise if the economy in the United States continues its upward trend and if businesses begin to recover and this will all help to push the prices of oil up even further.

Conflicts in some oil producing countries could further increase the cost of crude oil. Prices could dramatically inflate if there was anything which interrupted the supply of oil from these countries.

Some people spend a lot of money heating their homes in the winter. Gas and electricity are very expensive today, with no signs of prices coming down. Savvy people are changing over to oil as a home fuel though. And when this happens they have to ensure the tanks re always full of cheapest heating oil ensuring they can always heat their home in winter.
